In life, we often encounter situations where our faith is put to the test. Sometimes, even if we profess a certain truth, moments of doubt and fear arise. In such moments, we need to turn to the Word of God, for it is a source of hope and trust. One of the most striking examples in Scripture that helps us understand how to trust God in difficult times can be found in Mark 9:24.
Mark 9:24"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, 'I believe! Help my unbelief.'
In this passage, we see a father reaching out to Jesus with deep pain and a desire to heal his son. This father, like many of us, experienced doubts when faced with tremendous difficulties. His words, “I believe! Help my unbelief,” resonate with true humanity. He acknowledges that he has faith, but he also realizes that he needs more - he needs help with his unbelief.
This reflects the authenticity of our human nature. We can have faith, but sometimes the circumstances around us are so difficult that they hinder that faith from growing. It is important to recognize that God does not condemn us for our doubts. On the contrary, He invites us to bring our struggles to Him and ask for help.
Now, more than ever, it is crucial to understand that our faith can always be strengthened in difficult times. James 1:5 emphasizes: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." We can ask God to grant us wisdom and confidence in His promises, even when our minds are flooded with doubts.
Consuming God’s Word and prayer can become powerful tools to strengthen our faith. As it is written in Romans 10:17: "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." The more we immerse ourselves in the Word, the more we can grow in faith and trust in God during difficult situations.
Do not be afraid to turn to God in your state of doubt. Many of the great saints and ministers in the Bible, such as Abraham, Moses, and even Jesus Himself, experienced moments of doubt, yet they continued to believe and follow God’s call.
In conclusion, remember that it is our choice how we respond to difficulties. Will we cast aside our faith with painful claims, or will we open our hearts to the Ultimate Healer? What the father says: "Help my unbelief" — is a testament of a heart ready to seek God even in times of crisis.
So in moments of doubt and fear remember: your God is always close, ready to embrace you, strengthen your faith, and provide you with the support you so desperately need.
God, help our unbelief, may courage and faith in You always fill our hearts! Amen.
