Responsibility for Gifts: How to Recognize and Use Your Spiritual Gifts for God's Glory

1 Corinthians 12:4-11, each of us is endowed with specific gifts that need to be not only recognized but also actively utilized."There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them; there are different kinds of service, but the same Lord; there are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and still to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines."
First of all, to recognize your gifts, it is essential to understand that it is not just about what we enjoy doing, but also about how we can serve others. Recognizing gifts often requires prayer and fellowship with other believers.
Listen to the thoughts of ministers and brothers and sisters in Christ who can point out your strengths.
Additionally, try different ministries in the church. For example, if you enjoy organizing events, you might join the team that handles church events. If you have gifts in music, try getting involved in worship. Remember that
Ephesians 2:10."For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Secondly, it is important to use your spiritual gifts with the right motives. We should serve not for our own glory, but for God's glory. When we serve with a sincere heart, our service becomes a blessing to others.
After all, as stated in
1 Peter 4:10, our purpose is to be conduits of His grace."Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."
It is also important to pay attention to the various gifts of the Holy Spirit that may manifest in our lives at different times. Many of us receive gifts at one time, but at unexpected stages of life, other gifts may emerge, perhaps even those we didn’t previously anticipate. Continuous growth and development in faith is the path wherein we can learn how to utilize new gifts.
